In February 1965, Second Presbyterian Church of Germantown (a predominately white congregation, organized in 1857) and Faith Presbyterian Church, (a Negro congregation, founded in 1903, organized in 1909 and chartered in 1914), merged to form the Germantown Community United Presbyterian Church. The new congregation began to worship in the Second Presbyterian Church building, located at Greene and Tulpehocken Streets. Services were expanded under the interim leadership of Reverend Cornelius Berry. In July of 1966 the newly formed congregation called as its first pastor, Reverend Hal B. Lloyd of Rockland, Illinois. During the General Assembly held in Atlanta, Georgia in 1983, the Presbyterian Church (USA) was formed as a result of the merger of Presbyterian Church of the United States and the Presbyterian Church United. Germantown Community United Presbyterian Church became Germantown Community Presbyterian Church (USA). Past interim and permanent Pastors include Reverend Kermit Overton, Reverend Lincoln Griswald, Reverend Jefferson Rogers, Reverend Frank Gordon, Reverend Donald Scott, Reverend Eugene James, Reverend Edward B. Jones, Reverend Barnabas Glenn, Reverend J. Bernard Taylor, Reverend Edward B. Jones, Seminarian and James A. Johnson. In October 1998, Urla Eversley began a relationship with the Germantown Community Church as Student Pastor. In May, 1999 upon graduation from the Princeton Theological Seminary she became Temporary Supply and later became the pastor in June, 2001.

Rev. Urla
Eversley is truly excited about serving our Lord and Savior Jesus
Christ. For the past six years, she has been serving as the pastor of
the Germantown Community Presbyterian Church. Her call to Germantown
Community has opened doors for the utilization of her God-given gifts
and skills of preaching, teaching and business administration. Pastor
Eversley is also known for leading workshops in the area of Christian
Spirituality at local and regional conferences. She also serves on
the boards of local faith-based and civic organizations. |
